Worthington Hills commission adopts 2026 budget; approves flag-island landscaping and hires auditors

City Attorney Rob DeWees read the proposed budget ordinance after Mayor Robert Stonum confirmed there were no objections. Commissioner Linda Beville moved to accept the proposed budget as written; Commissioner Cristina Recendez seconded. A roll-call vote recorded the mayor and five commissioners voting "Yes," and the ordinance was adopted.
The commission approved routine items including the May 2026 minutes (motion by Commissioner Linda Beville, seconded by Commissioner Cristina Recendez) and the May financial report (motion by Commissioner Susan Maupin, seconded by Commissioner Dennis Metcalf); both motions passed unanimously.
On old-business landscaping, the commission accepted a flag-island proposal from Daniel Santos; Commissioner Beville moved to accept the bid, Commissioner Metcalf seconded, and the motion passed by roll call. Commissioners discussed scheduling the flagpole base seating and noted Louisville Flagpole Company requires a three-day cure after seating the base; the group hopes work can be completed ahead of July 4, 2026. Commissioner Beville asked that all Worthington Hills veterans be invited to the dedication.
Under new business, Mayor Stonum presented an engagement letter from auditors Bramel & Ackley for the 2026 audit and moved to accept their proposal; Commissioner Metcalf seconded and the commission voted unanimously. The engagement letter states a maximum fee of $9,900, an audit start date of Aug. 24, 2026, and a deadline to present the finished audit to the commission no later than Nov. 30, 2026.
Other operational items reported included pothole photo submissions and upcoming cost estimates for Pacelli Place repairs; because expected repair costs are below the $40,000 threshold, formal public bid posting was not required for those repairs. The meeting adjourned at 8:19 p.m.
