Council awards $29,100 roofing contract to repair Fire Hall wind damage

The Wakefield City Council on Feb. 11 approved a $29,100 contract with Lee’s Roofing to repair wind damage to the Fire Hall roof. Administrator Mogus reported the damage and said the insurance deductible is $10,000.
Three bids were received for the repair: Lee’s Roofing ($29,100), Schrunk Roofing and Guaranteed Roofing. Mogus recommended Lee’s Roofing because it uses higher-quality materials and both Lee’s and Schrunk have previously completed satisfactory work for the city.
Bob Berry, the city’s insurance agent, explained that EMC will first determine the property’s actual cash value and will reimburse the city after the final invoice is submitted, subject to policy terms.
Council Member Scott Hansen moved to approve the Lee’s Roofing bid in the amount of $29,100; Council Member Matt Brenn seconded. The council voted 4–0 (Brenn: aye; Dolen: aye; Geiser: aye; Hansen: aye) to award the contract.
City staff will proceed with contracting and will submit the final invoice to the insurer for reimbursement consistent with Mr. Berry’s explanation.
