WakeFest approved to move to Graves Park; organizers to seek SDL for controlled alcohol service

Kayla Miller, representing WakeFest, told the council the committee’s survey feedback favors the park because it offers pool access and additional restroom facilities. Miller said the committee will assume responsibility for lifeguard costs and plans expanded food offerings, including seasoned wings and pulled pork. Organizers requested authority to pursue an SDL to permit alcohol service in a designated area from approximately noon until 11:00 p.m.
Following Miller’s presentation, Council Member Dolen moved to approve relocating WakeFest to Graves Park; Council Member John Geiser seconded. The motion passed on a 4–0 roll-call vote (Brenn: aye; Dolen: aye; Geiser: aye; Hansen: aye).
The council did not attach conditions in the motion beyond the committee’s stated intent to cover lifeguard costs and to pursue required permits. The WakeFest committee will return to staff as needed to secure the SDL and to finalize event logistics.
The council’s action clears the way for planning and vendor coordination; Miller indicated the change will be added to WakeFest’s planning agenda for implementation.
