Wakefield students place at speech meets; two seniors earn WSC scholarships

At the Howells-Dodge speech meet on Jan. 28, 2026, the board reported Nate Johnson earned first place in JV Humorous Prose and Colt Lynn Lortz placed second in JV Extemporaneous. At the HNS/CCHS meet, Sawyer Brudigam and Kinslee Metzler won first place in JV Duet with a perfect score in the finals.
The board also announced scholarships for two seniors. "Sierra Kaufman has been awarded the Presidential Scholarship to WSC," the board said; the scholarship covers full tuition and half of housing, is renewable for four years and requires a 30 or higher on the ACT. The board said "Alexandra Garrido has been selected as a Career Scholar at WSC," a competitive honor that can provide up to $33,000 in scholarship support over four years and offers the opportunity to earn college credit while getting paid to work during the senior year.
