Cozad board approves contracts, equipment purchases and policy updates; ESU 10 contract passes 4-1

The Cozad Community Schools Board of Education approved a package of routine and programmatic items at its Feb. 16 meeting, voting on retirements, program dates and tuition, equipment purchases, service contracts and policy updates.
Votes at a glance: the board unanimously approved excusing an absence and the agenda; accepted retirements of Mrs. Debbie Neill and Mrs. Jacque Yocom; approved the consent agenda; approved summer AfterZone dates and tuition; agreed to sponsor the 2026 Summer Food Service Program; approved purchase of a Grasshopper mower from Landmark Implement and a service contract; authorized purchase of a Dollamur wrestling mat (the Cozad Wrestling Club and Wrestling Boosters are purchasing two additional mats); approved the 2026 Driver's Education contract at a rate of $340; changed the Jan. 27, 2027 early-out to Jan. 18, 2027 to accommodate a girls middle-school wrestling tournament; approved technology purchases including staff and student devices, a new server and upgraded security cameras; and approved policy series from Perry Law Firm covering the 1000s, 3000s, 6000s and 7000s.
Notable split vote: The 2026-27 ESU 10 contract passed 4-1 (Joel Carlson opposed). Following the vote, Superintendent Dr. Dan Endorf directed the interim special education leadership to review prior ESU contracts to ensure the district's approach to serving students is appropriate and fiscally sound.
Purchases and program details: Board materials noted the mower low bid came from Landmark Implement of Gothenburg; the Dollamur mat was requested by local boosters to reduce wear on existing mats; Driver's Education was approved at $340 per student with appreciation expressed for instructor Mr. Cargill; Mrs. Wolfe presented technology needs and continues to compare server options with ESU assistance.
