Cozad board passes option-enrollment resolution, hears AfterZone and extracurricular testing updates and enters closed session on bargaining

The Cozad Community Schools Board of Education, at its Oct. 13, 2025 meeting, approved the district's Option Enrollment Resolution for the 2026-27 school year. President Kiley Goff read the resolution; the motion to pass was made by Michele Starman, seconded by Will Geiger, and passed unanimously, 6-0.

AfterZone Director Karmen Morse presented updates on the district's after-school and summer program, describing recent program changes and preliminary expense and revenue figures. Superintendent Dr. Dan Endorf supplemented the presentation with preliminary fiscal figures.

On extracurricular activities, Mr. Yilk reviewed expenses and revenues supported by the General Fund and shared fall participation numbers. Mr. Yilk and two representatives from Cozad Health addressed the board about the district's random drug-testing protocol, including the ability to re-test original specimens, the thresholds that constitute a positive test, and the respective roles of the hospital and the school in administering and reviewing tests.

Mrs. Jenner outlined plans for an upcoming staff-led professional development day on Oct. 20 and presented the annual Rule 10 Public School Assurance statement; she reported that Cozad Community Schools met each of the Rule 10 requirements listed in the assurance report. Board members also summarized sessions from the Labor Relations Conference. The board moved into closed session at 8:47 p.m. to conduct a strategy session on collective bargaining and returned to open session at 9:39 p.m.
