Cozad board approves agenda, receives NASB Gallup Strengths briefing at special meeting

The Cozad Community Schools Board of Education met for a special session on Sept. 8, 2025, at the Office of the Superintendent in Cozad and approved the evening's agenda before hearing a professional-development presentation from the Nebraska Association of School Boards. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM and adjourned at 10:00 PM.
Joel Carlson moved to approve the agenda, Michele Starman seconded, and the board recorded a roll-call vote in which Joel Carlson, Will Geiger, Kiley Goff, Stacey Mundell and Michele Starman each voted "Yea." The motion to approve the agenda passed 5-0.
The board spent part of the meeting on a Gallup Strengths Finder session led by Shari Becker of the Nebraska Association of School Boards. Becker facilitated exercises reviewing each board member's Top 5 strengths, invited board members to discuss how colleagues' strengths can complement one another, and outlined common pitfalls associated with particular strengths. Superintendent Dr. Dan Endorf participated in the session and was included in the exercises and discussion.
During the public-comment portion of the agenda the board reiterated rules for speakers: those who address the board must identify themselves (name, address and any organization represented), observe time limits, avoid interruptions or offensive conduct, and refrain from naming students or staff in public comment. The board also noted that the Nebraska Open Meetings Act is posted in the meeting room and explained that the board is not obligated to respond to public comments during the meeting if a response would risk violating the Open Meetings Act. Notice of the meeting had been published in the Cozad Local and posted on the Cozad Community Schools website, at the district office, the Cozad Post Office and the Wilson Public Library; the posted date was listed as Sept. 4, 2025.
Superintendent Dr. Dan Endorf briefed the board on upcoming board meeting agendas and hearings and provided a summary of the Executive Committee meeting. The agenda included a standing item for agenda setting and future meetings.
Michele Starman moved and Stacey Mundell seconded to adjourn at 10:00 PM; the board voted unanimously to adjourn. The meeting record is signed by Dr. Dan Endorf, Superintendent.
