Wakefield council asks staff to solicit concrete bids, postpones full concession-stand decking project until May

City Administrator Mogus presented photos and described multiple problem areas in the decking between the concession stand and adjacent decking, citing rotten boards, sloping sections and uneven pavement. Mogus said Cory Brown Construction’s bid bundled the concrete work with deck replacement and included $2,500 for the concrete portion, but the council agreed the bundled schedule would not allow completion before the start of the baseball season.
Council member Geiser moved to proceed with Cory Brown’s bid unless a reasonable separate price for the concrete work could be obtained; that motion was withdrawn. After further discussion the council instructed City Administrator Mogus to solicit bids from contractors experienced in concrete work. The council also directed city crews to grind down uneven pavement, replace rotten boards, tighten loose boards and hardware, and apply a fresh coat of paint to the decking. Council members also agreed they did not want lattice on the front of the decking and asked that the full project be tabled until the May 2026 council meeting.
