Mayor James R. Lehmkuhl recommended Dr. Joseph Nelson to fill the Ward 1 council vacancy left by the resignation of Zach Dolen, and the Wakefield City Council voted unanimously to approve the appointment at a special meeting on April 1, 2026. Council member Hansen moved to approve the mayor’s recommendation; Council member Geiser seconded. Council members Brenn, Geiser and Hansen voted aye and the motion carried.
The council noted that Dr. Nelson will be sworn in at the April 8, 2026 regular council meeting and that his duties will begin immediately following that swearing-in. The appointment fills the Ward 1 seat until the council’s next regular meeting cycle and completes the business of this special session.
