Campton Hills trustees approve warrants after brief escrow balance scare

"I think before we approve more payments, I think we need to get that up to date," Trustee Therese said, citing an April statement she received that suggested an outstanding escrow balance "over a $100,000." She asked staff for an updated outstanding balance from Michelle and Russ and proposed postponing the item for a week to allow reconciliation.
Trustee Janet pushed back against delaying vendor payments. "I'm not comfortable with delaying vendor payments," she said, arguing that the village had agreed to pay the vendor and that the escrow would likely be funded once invoices were reconciled.
After staff and trustees exchanged questions about where the administrative breakdowns had occurred, Therese withdrew her request to table and the board moved ahead with the approvals. The board completed roll calls for both items and the motions passed.
The board asked administrator and accounting staff to provide an updated escrow statement and a plan to reconcile outstanding invoices before the next meeting to avoid repeat confusion. The board’s next regular session was scheduled to follow up on those deliverables.
