Economic Development board recommends $50,000 pledge for Lincoln Elementary playground

Carl Hamming told commissioners the Economic Development Board reviewed a proposal from Lincoln Primary School to replace an aging playground and recommended pledging $50,000 from the county's Atlantic Richfield economic-development allocation.
"This would be a huge asset to the entire neighborhood as well as the School District," Hamming said, highlighting stormwater drainage problems that limit play and create foundation issues. He noted the board can allocate up to 5% (in this case $50,000) of its annual Atlantic Richfield allocation to nonprofits and community projects.
CEO Bill Everett said the roughly $1,300,000 the county now receives annually from Atlantic Richfield has helped community rebuilding and welcomed the application of those funds to nonprofit projects. The board expects to start construction this summer with a goal of significant completion by September, though some site work may continue.
No formal pledge vote was recorded at the work session; the board's recommendation will be forwarded for commission action as appropriate.
