At its July 14 meeting the Dearborn Heights City Council recognized Officers Ali Hamoud, Simon and Hussein Fayad for a May 29, 2026 response that city officials said saved the life of a 72‑year‑old man. Police Chief Kozowski told the council officers found the man unresponsive with breathing difficulty and a blue face, directed retrieval of Narcan and provided CPR as the man’s heart repeatedly stopped. "This 72 year old man is alive today because of the quick response, sound decision making, and life saving actions of officers Hamoud, Simon, and Fayad," Kozowski said.
Kozowski outlined a sequence of care: after two doses of Narcan had limited effect, Officer Hamoud began CPR when the man’s heart stopped; a third dose and continued chest compressions restored a heartbeat before the fire department took over. The city said follow‑up with Garden City Hospital on June 3 confirmed the man was admitted and later discharged after a full recovery.
Council members and the mayor presented certificates of appreciation to the officers and recommended the department’s life‑saving award. Mayor Baidoun and the council praised first responders for their professionalism and called the incident an example of the role police and fire personnel play in public safety. The recognition took place during the council’s general meeting; no formal vote was required to present the certificates.
