CRA approves $100,000 matching façade grant for New Smyrna Beach Chiropractic

The Community Redevelopment Agency voted to award a $100,000 50/50 matching grant to Amanda Prokop for exterior improvements to New Smyrna Beach Chiropractic, located at 1205 North Diski Freeway. Staff told the board the project meets the program cap and that the applicant provided documentation showing the project meets the $200,000 applicant investment requirement; staff estimated the total project cost at $380,000.
City staffer Director Sam Bergeron recommended approval, describing eligible work to include professional design assistance, limited demolition, exterior wall repairs and structural enhancements, painting, decorative façade improvements, roof repair, awnings, exterior doors and windows, landscaping and irrigation, parking-lot reconfiguration and ADA improvements, exterior lighting and an updated sign. "These are $50.50 reimbursement grants in nature," Bergeron said.
During discussion a board member raised a concern about an unsettled dispute related to a different property and recommended continuing the matter until the issue is resolved. The board debated whether to continue the item, with one member urging the applicant to work "with due haste" with the city attorney to clear the outstanding matter so the grant could proceed. Despite the recommendation to continue, the board moved to approve the $100,000 award. The city clerk called the roll: Member McGurk: yes; Member Ashley: no; Vice Chair Martin: yes; Member Perrine: yes; Chair Cleveland: yes. The motion carried.
The staff report indicates the applicant provided the required quotes and documentation; staff recommended the award and advised the applicant to coordinate with the city attorney to resolve outstanding issues that could affect eligibility. The board then moved on to the next agenda item.
