Commission OKs $12,000 for facility security upgrades from Better Place Plan Fund

The Crescent City Commission authorized $12,000 from the Better Place Plan (discretionary) fund on April 9 to implement a set of security-related building upgrades at city facilities. Staff said the funding would cover minor access control improvements, replacement of security locks, possible key-card access points, interior and exterior visibility improvements, safety signage, emergency equipment mounting and contingency installation/configuration costs.
Commissioner DeVito moved to approve the expenditure and specifically included the five bulleted items presented by staff; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call with all commissioners voting in the affirmative. Staff said the funding is available within the current fiscal budget and authorized the city manager to proceed with procurement and implementation.
Commissioners asked that the security systems include cameras that provide retrievable footage and asked staff to ensure any installed equipment yields usable evidence. Staff confirmed live video feed capability and said some additional access-control work may be addressed during the upcoming budget cycle.
