The Eatonville Town Council received a financial update from staff saying the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) has compiled records suggesting the CRA may be owed about $892,083.46 for tax collections covering 1997–2005; staff noted a potential 5% penalty could add roughly $44,006, producing a claimed total near $936,687.63. The council agreed to workshop the issue and consult attorneys for guidance.
"That amount is $892,083.46," a staff presenter said. He added that including a possible penalty the CRA would claim approximately $936,687.63 and recommended further attorney review and individual meetings with stakeholders.
Council members also debated recent changes in the town's legal staffing. The mayor described an emergency interim hire following a voluntary resignation and said the mayoral office has authority to designate emergency interim counsel under town policy; several members pressed for following procurement rules and asked staff to issue an RFP for a permanent general counsel.
Multiple council members urged care to ensure the process fully complies with procurement and personnel procedures. The mayor said the emergency hire was consistent with policy and that staff would move the RFP process forward, with the CAO and legal staff coordinating next steps.
