The Eatonville Town Council on March 3 authorized an immediate emergency hire of finance personnel to address audit and financial-control gaps and approved transferring contingency funds into the finance line to cover the work, with a not-to-exceed amount discussed at $50,000.
Councilmembers and the CAO said the town’s audit would likely slip to mid-April and that a stronger financial staff presence is needed before the new council takes office. One councilmember moved the hiring motion and another seconded; the motion to authorize immediate hiring passed by voice vote. The council then considered a motion to transfer contingency funds to finance and, after discussion about an appropriate not-to-exceed amount, set a ceiling around $50,000 and approved the transfer by voice vote.
The CAO said staff would present a scope of work, milestones and proposed account changes after the hire; council indicated it wanted procurement and milestone detail returned to the body for oversight.
Next steps: Administration will contract or hire finance professionals under an agreed scope and return to council with milestones and proposed account changes necessary to fund the work.
