Council honors longtime preservation volunteer, waives Winter Bowl alcohol fee and notes community events

At the Jan. 12 Anchorage City Council meeting, Mayor Neil Ramsey and the Council publicly recognized Bill Wetherton for 44 years of service on the Anchorage Historic Preservation Commission. Ramsey presented Wetherton with a personal gift and the Council offered thanks for his long service.
During New Business, Councilmember Karin Tyrer moved to waive the Anchorage alcohol license fee for the Winter Bowl 2026 event; Diane Cook seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Mayor Ramsey also announced that the Winter Bowl & Town Hall meeting will be held on Feb. 1.
Under reports and announcements, Public Works Director Brandon Burkhead said new siding and stone will be installed on Public Works buildings and that embroidered shirts and jackets were ordered for the new City Forester. Jan Ruzich announced the Forestry Board’s Arbor Day event and Tree Give Away scheduled for March 18. The Council adjourned at 6:24 p.m.
