Police chief: Officer resigned; city will ask county to reroute truck convoys

Police Chief Dean Hayes told the Anchorage City Council that Officer Slack resigned at the end of October and that a replacement officer is currently being vetted.
Hayes said convoys of trucks are being routed through Anchorage under county permits and that he will contact county and state authorities to request that the route not include Anchorage. Mayor Neil Ramsey asked that officers remind lawn company trailers not to park in ways that block roads and to use residents’ driveways or off‑road parking when possible.
Council Member Patrick McMahon asked that the Council consider revisiting restrictive turn signs on Evergreen Road south of Woodland Road; Chief Hayes said the signs have been effective at keeping traffic out of residential areas. No formal action was taken; the chief said he will follow up with county and state contacts about convoy routing.
