Council agrees to $5,000 and Public Works help for Ridge Road beautification

Forestry Board Chair Jan Ruzich asked the Anchorage City Council on Oct. 13, 2025, for $5,000 and Public Works assistance to install deer‑resistant landscape beds along the north side of Ridge Road between Bellewood Road and Evergreen Road. The Council approved providing up to $5,000 and directed Public Works to help prepare the beds and install trees.
Ruzich said the planting areas have been flagged with white markers and that the project’s target completion date is by Thanksgiving 2025. The Forestry Board also described preliminary plans for a 2026 beautification project extending Ridge Road landscaping between Evergreen Road and Glenbrook Road.
The City will partner operationally with the Forestry Board and Public Works on installation; the Forestry Board plans to hand out 2026 calendars to residents at Anchorfest on Oct. 16, 2025. Public Works Director Brandon Burkhead will coordinate site preparation under the approved budget allocation.
The Council’s action appropriates up to $5,000 of city funds and assigns installation support to Public Works; no additional city capital appropriation was reported at the meeting.
