The Anchorage City Council unanimously approved a $76,313 bid from Fall City Contracting to replace vinyl siding on the Public Works Department building and the adjacent salt shed.
Public Works Director Brandon Burkhead told the council that vines and trees have grown under the existing vinyl siding and that flooding has occurred inside the building. The city publicly solicited bids and received three responses; Burkhead recommended the lowest responsive bid of $76,313, which includes siding and stone.
Mayor Neil Ramsey raised the option of adding three feet of natural limestone veneer at the base of the buildings and said the nominal net cost would be approximately $6,438. Burkhead said the project team selected seven‑inch overlap cement‑fiber horizontal siding over board‑and‑batten because of aesthetic and cost concerns for the tall buildings. Burkhead said he will provide green/gray paint samples on the building so council can choose a color at or before a future meeting.
Council Member Hunter Wilson moved to approve the recommended bid; Council Member Karin Tyrer seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
