Evergreen board ratifies five-year contract with teachers' union

"I just wanna thank the Evergreen Education Association for putting together and our bargaining team for coming together and putting together this historic... contract," one director said during discussion. Another director noted that a five-year agreement is "unheard of" in current educational bargaining and thanked both sides for arriving at a settlement before the start of the school year.
The board opened the item, received brief remarks highlighting compensation, special-education identification and other negotiated provisions, and then voted to ratify the agreement. The motion to ratify was moved and seconded by board directors and carried unanimously.
What this means: The contract is set to commence Sept. 1 and aims to provide stability for staffing and classroom operations; the board and union said the agreement should reduce strike risk and provide continuity for the coming school year.
