Tower council approves timber-sale plan (4–1) and approves removal of seven trees on South 2nd Street

The City of Tower council voted on two Forestry Board items on June 25: it approved a timber-harvest plan by a 4–1 margin and authorized removing seven trees along South 2nd Street with a cost cap of $7,000.
Mayor Setterberg presented maps showing a larger timber area than previously bid, explaining that some areas were degraded and thinning is needed to allow other trees to grow. The council agreed to put the larger area out to bid; Councilor Norby moved to harvest according to the presented plan and the motion passed 4–1, with Councilor Anderson casting the lone no vote.
Separately, council considered removing several compromised trees along South 2nd Street that are at risk from Emerald Ash Borer and recommended removal before the final pavement coat is applied. An initial bid from Rick’s Tree Svc was approximately $5,000; the council approved Councilor Morin’s motion, seconded by Councilor Anderson, to remove the seven identified trees between Pine and Birch Streets for a cost not to exceed $7,000, with funds coming from the Forestry Board.
The motions direct staff to advertise the timber harvest for bid and to obtain a formal updated tree-removal bid for execution. Council recorded no public comment on either forestry item during the meeting.
