Tower council approves staff wage increases, hires EMS applicants and authorizes operational purchases

On June 8 the City of Tower approved several personnel and operational decisions. Council voted unanimously to hire two ambulance applicants pending satisfactory background checks (motion by Councilor Norby, seconded by Councilor Anderson). The council also approved salary increases recommended by Mayor Setterberg: a $1.00 per hour increase for the Ambulance Supervisor and a $5,000 increase for Clerk/Treasurer Tammy Mortaloni, effective the first pay period in July. Councilor Anderson moved to implement the increases and the motion carried unanimously.
The council voted to increase the Senior Maintenance Supervisor’s pay by $1.00 per hour contingent on a signed amendment to the union contract; Mayor Setterberg made the motion and Councilor Anderson seconded. The council approved the conditional increase and instructed staff to pursue the union amendment to effect the change.
Operational purchases approved included one fire shelter and a Kestrel 5500FW weather meter for the Fire Department (motion by Councilor Anderson), and authorization to hire Rick’s Tree Service to trim airport trees for $3,900 (motion by Councilor VanDeVoort). All such motions passed with unanimous consent of members present.
Next steps: staff will process hires after background checks clear, proceed with the union amendment for the maintenance position, and initiate the approved equipment and tree-trimming purchases.
