Resident files appeal of historic-preservation demolition approval; council will consider in April

Chapman Montgomery announced at the March 9 Anchorage City Council meeting that he has filed an appeal of the Historic Preservation Commission’s decision approving demolition of the existing house and construction of a new one at 1661 Cold Spring Road.
Montgomery said the appeal has been filed with City Hall and will be placed on the Council’s April 13, 2026 agenda for formal consideration. Presiding Officer Diane Cook advised Montgomery that further discussion would be best tabled until that April meeting because Council had not been provided documentation related to the appeal.
No staff report or supporting documents were presented at the March 9 meeting; Council did not act on the appeal and directed that the item be taken up at the scheduled April meeting.
