Anchorage council awards hazardous-tree contract to 502 Trees, retains police SUV for Public Works

The Anchorage City Council voted Dec. 8 to accept a $10,000 bid from 502 Trees for the city’s Annual Hazardous Tree Removal Program and to transfer a 2017 Ford Explorer from police inventory to the Public Works Department.
Public Works Director Brandon Burkhead recommended awarding the hazardous-tree contract to 502 Trees, noting the company’s past and current experience with the city. Council member Karin Tyrer moved to accept the $10,000 bid; Diane Cook seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Police Chief Dean Hayes asked that a 2017 Ford Explorer be declared surplus. Council member Patrick McMahon moved not to declare the vehicle surplus and instead assign it to Public Works; Karin Tyrer seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Earlier in the meeting, Council member Hunter Wilson moved to approve the Nov. 10, 2025 regular meeting minutes; Karin Tyrer seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Hunter Wilson later moved to adjourn the meeting; Patrick McMahon seconded and the meeting adjourned at 6:24 p.m.
Council attendance at the Dec. 8 meeting included Diane Cook, Patrick McMahon, Karin Tyrer and Hunter Wilson; two members were absent.
