Board approves flag football program; bus drivers press district on air-conditioning

The board approved the adoption of flag football as an NJSIAA-recognized interscholastic spring athletic program at Jackson Township High School beginning in the 2026–27 school year following a student presentation.
Student presenter Paige Little told the board she had contacted NFL teams and the Shore Conference to seek support: “We have 2 NFL teams that are willing to help us with finances,” she said. Board members praised the presentation and expressed support for the program; the board approved the program by roll call.
In public comment transportation concerns were raised by bus driver Dia Nafsiger, who described summer routes with non–air-conditioned buses and asked why some district vehicles had AC while drivers and small buses used for programs did not. “Are we not cared about?” Nafsiger asked, pressing for fairness and safety on long trips with young children.
Superintendent Boginski replied that the district’s available 54-passenger AC bus was out of service at the time and invited the commenter to leave contact information so staff could follow up about options and costs.
What happens next: The athletics program will move forward administratively for the 2026–27 school year. Transportation staff will follow up with the commenter to discuss AC availability and potential accommodations.
