The Smithfield Planning Department briefed the board on progress in the town’s comprehensive-plan update, reporting an engaged public workshop and an ongoing community survey.
Assistant planning director Gregory said roughly 60 people attended the June 30 values workshop and that responses were thoughtful; staff plan to analyze results after public engagement concludes. A community survey went live the night of the workshop and will remain open through early September. Gregory said the next engagement phase will deploy site-specific surveys at about 70 town locations so respondents can comment on places where they are physically located.
The planner also said the department has begun a search for an assistant planning director, with more than a dozen applicants so far, and has started a compliance audit of the subdivision and land development regulations to align local rules with state law and the zoning ordinance.
Board members were asked to share the survey with their networks and to help the department broaden participation beyond boards and commissions.
