The Grundy Center City Council on April 6 approved Resolution 2026-14 to close specified downtown streets for Felix Grundy Days on July 10–11, 2026.
Councilmember Smith moved and Councilmember Stensland seconded approval of the street-closure resolution. Felix Committee members Katie Appel and Chris Bowen told the council that food vendors have asked to set up earlier this year and requested that 7th Street from G to H Avenue and H Avenue from 7th to 8th Street be closed at 5 p.m. to allow vendor setup; the council approved the resolution on a 4-0 vote.
The council also set a public hearing date for proposed General Obligation Loan Agreements. Councilmember Smith moved and Councilmember Lamp seconded Resolution 2026-15 to set Monday, May 4, 2026, as the hearing date on proposals to enter into General Obligation Loan Agreements and to borrow money thereunder; the motion carried, four ayes.
During the public forum, Katie Rasmussen of Chamber Main Street announced that the Grundy Center Connect app is live and will be used to push resident notifications. Rasmussen also provided details about RAGBRAI routing through Grundy Center: Day 5 (Thursday, July 23, 2026) will be a pass-through day, with riders coming into town on Highway 14/175 heading east toward Morrison and Reinbeck; early riders may arrive around 5–6 a.m., the bulk about 9–10 a.m., and the Iowa State Patrol is expected to close the city and push riders through at about 1 p.m. Rasmussen said a town-hall meeting will be scheduled to provide further information to residents and vendors.
The council recorded both resolutions and public-notice items in the meeting minutes and left next steps for the May 4 public hearing and the community town hall.
