Mayor Paul Eberline presided as the Grundy Center City Council on Monday adopted Ordinance 590 on third reading, approving revisions to Chapter 18.01 (City Clerk) and Chapter 21.01 (Public Works Director positions).
Councilmember Lamp moved and Councilmember Mcdonald seconded adoption of the ordinance; the motion carried on a 4-0 vote. The council had earlier approved the meeting agenda and a slate of consent items.
During the consent portion of the meeting, Councilmember Smith moved and Councilmember Stensland seconded approval of minutes from two special sessions held March 30, the March 2026 bills list, and the March 2026 Treasurer's Report. The council also approved a notice to publish allowing open burning from April 7 through May 31, 2026, daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those motions carried by recorded voice as four ayes.
A staff-presented list of vendor payments and payroll-related items totaled $273,754.50 for the reportable claims presented at the meeting; the packet also included a fund-level summary showing March 2026 expenditures across funds totaled $415,769 and revenues totaled $452,639. Notable line items on the vendor list included RITE ENVIRONMENTAL ($28,279.21), IOWA REGIONAL UTILITIES ASSN water charges ($27,497.52), and WELLMARK premiums ($28,359.15).
The ordinance and financial approvals take effect as recorded in the council minutes. The council set its next regular meeting for Monday, April 20, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.
