Grundy Center approves three BIG grants for property repairs

The Grundy Center City Council approved three Business Improvement Grant awards Monday, totaling $31,857, to support building repairs in the city’s commercial area.
Lamp moved and Smith seconded adoption of Resolution 2026-16 to award $16,613 to Katie Lewis, owner of 602 G Avenue, for tuckpointing, stucco façade repair and bringing electrical and HVAC systems up to code. Smith moved and Mcdonald seconded adoption of Resolution 2026-17 to award $5,250 to Lon and Carene Larsen, owners of 612 G Avenue, for roof and gutter replacement. Lamp moved and Mcdonald seconded adoption of Resolution 2026-18 to award $9,994 to Jill Krausman, owner of 803 G Avenue, for roof and gutter replacement. Each resolution carried four ayes.
Council discussed the grants as part of routine economic development assistance to maintain downtown building stock. No public opposition was recorded. The council also addressed other agenda business and set a May 4 public hearing on a separate ordinance concerning junk and hobby vehicles before adjourning at 7:15 p.m.
