The Ely City Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2025-02 on April 10, authorizing the city to apply to the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) for a Capital Improvements Grant to finish the Morley Avenue water upgrades project.
City Clerk Jennifer Lee told the council the NDEP required a full grant application rather than a letter and said the financing board will consider the city's application on May 21 with a possible award on Aug. 20. The resolution, introduced by the clerk, notes construction costs have increased about 20 percent and that the project is "shovel ready" by October 2025. The resolution also states the city can provide a small percentage of matching funds if required.
Council members voted to approve submission of the CAP grant application and to transmit the signed resolution to the state as part of the application packet. No final grant award was made at the meeting.
