Ely council waives late-fee penalties for two Ruth properties and approves Forest Service water/sewer connections

The Ely City Council on Feb. 13 approved removal of past-due utility penalties for two Ruth properties after staff reported the owner had paid the underlying charges.
City Clerk Jennifer Lee told the Council that Tina Templer paid the fees owed of $1,152.56 on Jan. 10 and asked for penalty waivers. The Council approved waivers up to $964.52 for 1 Dorchester Street and up to $560.42 for 15 Sunshine Street; both motions carried unanimously.
Separately, the Council approved a "will-serve" application for Guardian DB Services to provide two water connections (including a no-charge fire connection) and one domestic sewer connection at 825 Avenue E for a new Forest Service bunkhouse. City Engineer B.J. Almberg said the applicant had paid required fees and the fire connection is treated as a safety connection with no separate charge.
Councilmembers said they had approved similar waivers in the past and noted that staff provided backup documentation in the meeting packet. The motions were recorded as unanimous.
