Bellemeade commission combines clerk, treasurer roles and adopts two ordinances

At its Sept. 8 meeting the Bellemeade City Commission voted unanimously to combine the city clerk and treasurer positions effective Oct. 31, approved the 2025 Tax Ordinance and a construction/safety ordinance, and authorized routine minutes and financial reports.
The Bellemeade City Commission on Sept. 8 voted unanimously to combine the city clerk and treasurer positions, adopt the 2025 Tax Ordinance and approve an ordinance covering construction, demolition and safety standards.
City Treasurer Geri Huff presented the Treasurer's Report and noted an insurance premium receipt of $25,000 and that Certificates of Deposit are earning more than money-market accounts; she asked permission to renew a PNC CD for four months at the current rate. Mayor James Martin moved to approve the Treasurer's Report; the motion passed unanimously.
Commissioner Burt Deutsch moved to combine the Treasurer and City Clerk positions effective when City Clerk Trish Scott resigns on Oct. 31; Commissioner Sandy Walker seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The commission recorded that City Treasurer Geri Huff will assume both roles and will receive the combined salaries, and that the change will result in no increased cost to the city.
Mayor Martin presented the 2025 Tax Ordinance for second reading. Commissioner Deutsch moved to approve the ordinance as presented; Commissioner Walker seconded and the ordinance passed unanimously. The commission also approved, on second reading, an ordinance "establishing requirements for construction, demolition, design, safety, parking and lighting activities in the City of Bellemeade;" that motion likewise passed unanimously.

Routine and community items included Commissioner Halle Brumleve thanking volunteers after a neighborhood yard sale and announcing a Halloween parade set for Sunday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m.; she said she will request the Lyndon Fire Department provide a leading fire truck. Commissioner Sandy Walker reported The Beargrass Group plans to treat road damage during September. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
