Parks staff: pavilion rentals doubled; donated disc‑golf course due Aug. 1

Mike, Parks and Facilities staff, told the Waushara County board that pavilion rentals are roughly double last year and that recent wet weather has kept crews busy on routine maintenance.

"We opened up a lot more of them to be rented out this year," Mike said, describing increased public use of shelters and higher pavilion reservations.

The staff update highlighted several completed and planned projects. Mike said crews renovated the beach at Morrow—removing stumps and cleaning areas exposed after water levels receded—and had received positive public feedback. He also described a privately funded disc‑golf installation at Coosil: orange tournament‑style goals were ordered and expected to be delivered around Aug. 1. "We got a private donation for it," he said, and the county will partner on installation and a public announcement when the course opens.

Mike reported that the fairgrounds hosted a recent company picnic of about 530 people and that organizers wished to rent the site again. He noted ongoing warranty repairs in the government center (drywall) and a completed roof replacement on a communications tower in Watscoma. Several board members praised staff for maintaining facilities and the government center's cleanliness.

The presentation included a brief fiscal snapshot: parks spending is at about 43% of budget after six months, and facilities about 47%, figures Mike described as on target for midyear. He said he will provide a fuller strategic plan and budget update at next month’s meeting.

Board members asked for printed copies of the street/strategic plan materials for the next meeting and thanked staff for the work. The board did not take formal action on the parks report during the session.
