Bellemeade commission appoints Burt Deutsch, approves routine finance reports and sends attorney to zoning meeting

The City of Bellemeade Commission unanimously appointed Burt Deutsch to the open Public Lands/Public Works seat and approved routine minutes and financial reports at its March 10 meeting at the Steel Technologies Building in Louisville.
Mayor James Martin moved to appoint Burt Deutsch to the open commissioner position; Commissioner Cindy Oppel seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Earlier in the meeting Commissioner Cindy Oppel moved to approve the Feb. 10, 2025 minutes; Commissioner Halle Brumleve seconded and that motion also passed unanimously.
City Treasurer Geri Huff presented the financial report for February, saying overall expenses were as expected aside from Kentucky League of Cities membership dues and that the city's investment account showed negative performance for the month. Huff said she added a recently purchased certificate of deposit to the financial statement, placed Bellemeade on Baldwin's waiting list for audit services, and will submit Fiscal Year 2024 financials without an audit by April to maintain reporting compliance. Huff also said the city obtained a new credit card with a $25,000 limit that will be used to pay the Rumpke bill and is expected to generate about $180 per month in cash-back rewards.
On a land-use matter, Mayor Martin moved that City Attorney Stephen Porter attend a March 12 zoning meeting regarding proposed development at the corner of Whippsmill and Old Whippsmill Roads to represent Bellemeade; Commissioner Halle Brumleve seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Other business included awarding the city's landscape maintenance contract to Jason Boland following the bid process; Commissioner Halle Brumleve announced Arbor Day is scheduled for April 26 with five canopy trees to be distributed by drawing on April 15; Commissioner Sandy Walker said roads will be re-sealed this year and noted Lyndon Police are patrolling the Shelby House condominium area; Commissioner Cindy Oppel said she is following up on last month's parking violations; and Treasurer Huff asked commissioners for input on the upcoming budget, which will be presented for first reading at the April meeting and for second reading in May.
Mayor Martin apologized for missing a previously scheduled March 3 working meeting and said he would follow up with Hatfield about maintaining the city's .gov website domain. The commission scheduled a working meeting via Zoom for April 7 at 7:00 p.m. and set the regular April meeting for April 14 at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Martin adjourned the meeting at 7:28 p.m.
