Auditor reports strong turnout and budget transfers; Veterans Service Officer logs service activity

Auditor Jan Hamlin told the LaMoure County commissioners Nov. 7 that she will record 2024 budget transfers: $80,000 from County General to Public Health and $745,876 (State Aid funds) from County General to Road and Bridge.
Hamlin also reported on the Nov. 5 election: the vote-by-mail/absentee board counted 1,038 ballots on election day and forwarded 17 ballots to the canvass board; the Edgeley polling place had 543 voters and LaMoure had 571, for a total of 2,152 ballots counted on election day and a reported 67% voter turnout. Hamlin said 96% of absentee/vote-by-mail ballots were returned. The canvass board will meet Nov. 18 at 9 a.m.
Veteran Service Officer Tammy Jacobson provided a March-to-October 2024 activity summary: roughly 130 phone calls, 25 walk-ins, 20 appointments and about 40 emails. Jacobson said she assisted about 12 veterans with claims and other needs and has been scanning hard-copy files into the state system. "The 16 hours a month being present in LaMoure has been the right amount of time to cover any needs," she told the board.
Jacobson attends in person 16 hours a month and participated virtually at the Nov. 7 meeting. The board did not take further action on VSO staffing or hours at the Nov. 7 meeting.
