LaMoure County Highway Superintendent Darrick Nitschke told the county commissioners Nov. 7 that the county has applied for an Innovation Grant to perform hot-in-place recycling on County Road 60. The grant would cover 80% of eligible costs and LaMoure County would be responsible for a 20% local match.
Nitschke reported additional highway operations updates: the county’s salt building is complete, ditch mowing has been finished and the final rounds of blading are nearly complete. He asked the board to consider a clothing allowance for highway employees — roughly $250–$300 per year per worker, or alternatively a jacket and three shirts annually — but the board tabled that request to a future meeting.
Two members of the public, Mike Rodin and Jeremy Sorenson, attended to ask how overweight permits are processed in LaMoure County. They said Barnes and Stutsman counties charge $50 per month per truck to exceed legal weight by 10 percent. Nitschke clarified that LaMoure County’s current practice is to charge a $20-per-axle fee for a single-trip overload permit.
The board took no immediate final action on the Innovation Grant application beyond the superintendent reporting the application has been submitted; staff will return with further details if the grant is awarded or additional county match information is required.
