Taylor, CRA staff, updated the board Wednesday on several boardwalk and park projects, saying contractors are clearing underbrush at the passive park and the city expects substantial completion in late September to early October "weather permitting."
Staff said signage for historical and native vegetation information will follow completion, and the city will propose about 10–12 potential names for the passive park; the names will be vetted with council and the CRA and the public will be invited to vote on the final choice.
On the South Beach Parkway urban trail, staff said work is proceeding alongside the passive park using the same contractors and the city expects similar milestones and completion timing.
Boardwalk activation pilot program Taylor said the program agreement, application and insurance requirements have been completed and those documents are with the city legal team for review. The staff described strong vendor interest: "I've probably had in the ballpark of 25 to 30 vendors reach out," and said the program could mirror the food truck rally model with recurring weekend activations once legal clears the materials.
Public art and maintenance Staff also reported cracking and chipping on the ocean-facing side of the Spiwont Pavilion mural. They said they have contacted the artist about repair and are consulting parks and the art committee about the most appropriate approach if the artist is unavailable.
Next steps Staff will return with finalized naming options, sign designs, and a legal clearance to launch the boardwalk activation pilot; timelines are tied to permitting, fabrication of permanent signs, and weather for construction closeout.
