Residents urge denial or delay of 4‑story condo proposal near Broadway; commission plays voicemail and postpones related hearing

Dozens of residents who live in Chateau Dijon and nearby complexes spoke or left voicemails for the San Antonio Zoning Commission to oppose a proposed four‑story condominium and associated rezoning, recorded in public comment for case Z-2026-107-0015.

Elaine Bagan, who identified herself and said she has lived in the neighborhood for more than five years, said the proposed building would sit immediately adjacent to senior housing, reducing access to sunlight and increasing construction noise and dust. Other callers described mobility and safety concerns for elderly residents who cross nearby streets to reach grocery stores and services. Several commenters said the project’s density (about 50 future residents, as callers stated) would worsen parking and traffic on narrow streets.

Commission staff played multiple voicemail comments and acknowledged the number of callers within the 200‑foot notification area. After hearing public comments, commissioners moved to postpone the agenda item to March 19 to allow more direct conversations between the developer and neighborhood groups; the motion passed without further discussion. The chair reminded members that item postponement does not change an applicant’s right to pursue the matter again and that the commission will revisit the item on the new date.

Speakers who publicly recorded their opposition included residents from 7709–7711 Broadway and several callers who described being elderly or using mobility devices and therefore particularly vulnerable to construction impacts.
