Maiden Rock board supports starting 440th Street discontinuance process and accepts rock bid

The Town of Maiden Rock board on July 21 agreed to support initiating the discontinuance-of-maintenance process for 440th Street after a potential buyer, Dylan Holes, attended and said he would begin the process, the board said.
The board also voted to accept a rock-supply bid from Pierce County Highway at $10.92 per ton to rock local stretches of roadway, after comparing bids that included offers from Greg Bechel Trucking at $11.75 and $12.50 per ton. Supervisor John Danneker moved to accept the Pierce County Highway bid and Chairman Jerry F. Duden seconded; the motion carried with all members present voting in favor.
Clerk/Treasurer Carla R. Schuster opened routine business and thanked volunteers who assisted while she recuperated from surgery, saying, “HUGE thanks to Joseph Smith and Cole Kangas for assisting me with clerical and driving services while I recuperated from surgery.” The board approved the June minutes and the June treasurer’s report on unanimous motions.
On roads, the board reported the first round of mowing is complete, a bent sign at 50th and 250th will be addressed, culverts on 145th will be replaced by Elbe’s, and the town plans to rock 76th Street near M. Collett and 100th Avenue near D. Iverson this year. The board noted it is still awaiting an additional bid for parking-lot blade patching.
The board reviewed a resolution regarding authority bonds for business loans and agreed to follow up with attorney Bob Loberg; discussion will continue at the next monthly meeting. Clerk Schuster read a list of correspondence and notices the town has received, including a Wisconsin Department of Health Services ambulance award and other county and state program notices.
During public comment, resident Judy Krohn thanked Supervisor Danneker for arranging water testing and confirmed residents received results. A resident asked whether County Road CC and 50th are the township’s responsibility; the board indicated the county is responsible for that section.
The board reviewed employee time cards with no concerns and adjourned at 8:00 p.m. on a motion by Danneker and second by Duden.
