Maiden Rock board keeps Chippewa Valley Energy, declines to pay dust-control this year; routes and permits discussed

The Town of Maiden Rock board on June 16 voted to remain with Chippewa Valley Energy for summer fuel at a bid of $2.519 per gallon, after receiving a competing bid from Alcivia at $2.53 per gallon.
During routine business the board reviewed road maintenance work — grading, ditch cleanup, and planned rock placement on 78th Street near M. Collett and 100th Avenue near D. Iverson — and noted a bent sign at 50th and 250th that Cole Kangas will follow up on. A blown valve stem on the town John Deere was reported repaired, and Mark Larson has agreed to perform part-time blading for the township.
Chairman Jerry F. Duden reminded residents that Luhman’s Construction dust-control applications are available for property owners. Resident Dan Ellenberger asked the board to make dust control a township expense; Duden said the township will not be responsible this year but will look into it for next year.
Clerk/Treasurer Carla Schuster reported that CenturyLink and HBC accounts have been canceled and that Swift Current service for internet and phone was connected on May 28. The board recorded a set of zoning permits (Jim Scheffler — two driveways; Jordan Dejong — new single-family home; James Madsen — deck with stairs; Jerry Duden — renewal) and listed upcoming bills including a QuickBooks subscription and Pierce County Highway Department charges. The parking-lot blade-patching bid status remains to be confirmed.
Public comments included a question from Bruce Thomes about road updates for U to CC and a resident report from Chris Martin that previous issues with Swift Current near his property have been resolved. Time cards were reviewed with no concerns. The board adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
