The Town of Islip’s Industrial Development Agency and Economic Development Corporation approved a set of economic development measures, including a key inducement resolution for Intertek Testing Services and several amended PILOT or authorizing agreements for local lodging projects.
John Walzer, executive director, told the board Intertek is relocating from a 12,000‑square‑foot Farmingdale facility to a 24,000‑square‑foot site at 1 Rodeo Drive in Edgewood, bringing 58 employees and adding 13 more for a total of 71. The inducement resolution for that move was presented and approved by the IDA.
The IDA also approved amended authorizing resolutions and pilot agreements for R‑Squared Bayshore LLC (22 Oak Street, Bayshore), Briad Lodging Group (7 Courthouse Drive, Central Islip) and an additional Briad Lodging Group property at 11 Courthouse Drive. The record shows the R‑Squared Bayshore resolution passed with four in favor and one opposed; the board took time for a member to place an explanation on the record noting a personal view that IDA funds should not be used for apartments.
The Economic Development Corporation approved minutes and an amended bond resolution for a Central Islip volunteer ambulance project at Motor Parkway and Blydenberg Road; the corporation then adjourned.
These actions were recorded as motions and votes; the agencies announced no further business during their sessions and adjourned to continue other town agenda items.
