Council Tables Pickleball Permit for Committee Review; Approves Adaptive Surfing and Other Event Permits

The Borough Council on Thursday tabled a request to approve a privately run, multi-date pickleball program and approved other summer event permits after debating access and fee concerns.
Mayor and council members raised questions about the pickleball group’s $25 charge and whether that fee and its private nature would reduce access for Seaside Park residents. The mayor requested the recreation committee review the item; Council Member Condos moved to table the pickleball authorization to allow the committee to examine dates, fees and the facility-use arrangement. The motion to table carried on a roll-call vote.
Council then moved to approve a Hearts of Surfing adaptive-surfing rain date for Aug. 23, 2026, and a Trust the Man LLC event on July 30, 2026, both with the condition that prior conditions remain in place and that updated certificates of insurance be provided before the events. Roll-call votes were recorded for those approvals.
Members of the public urged the council to consult existing regular users (including longtime winter pickleball players) before finalizing any permit terms; the council encouraged organizers and residents to meet with the recreation committee and to submit formal written requests as needed. The approvals are subject to compliance with any prior conditions described in earlier approvals and to receipt of updated insurance certificates.
