Engineer reports road-project progress; council discusses crosswalk repair and park events

Engineer Erik Biermann reported several street and infrastructure updates at the June 23 meeting. Work on Bertha and Guernsey is under construction with concrete completed; paving was delayed by weather but expected to resume the following Thursday or the next week. Rose Drive was resubmitted to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection for final review ahead of bidding after adjustments requested by DEP. Borton Drive Phase II design is being finalized and the engineer expected to sign plans for submission to the New Jersey Department of Transportation imminently.
Biermann also said the flashing crosswalk-sign repair at Bailey and Lotus is pending additional quotes before work can be scheduled. Councilwoman Bertha Hyman raised a separate property-maintenance concern about an overgrown vacant lot on Kresswold Lane with poison ivy that needs attention.
On recreation, Councilman Jesse Stemberger discussed the borough’s trash-can distribution notice; Public Works Acting Foreman Jeff Fredo will supply resident notices for the remaining replacement cans. The Salem County Art League will host a Plein Aire event borough-wide on July 11, 2026 (10 a.m.–4 p.m.), and Borough Hall will be available for restroom use and brief shelter from the heat.
