Seaside Park — At a July 16, 2026 work session, the mayor and borough council moved to place a resolution on the regular meeting agenda that would authorize the chief financial officer to make electronic payments to the county for tax obligations, after a misplaced check prompted concern about interest charges.
Mayor Peterson said the change was prompted by a recent incident in which a check sent by mail was delayed and the county sought interest before later backing off. "The post office may have misplaced a check that was finally tracked down," the mayor said, noting the county initially sought an 8% interest charge before reducing that demand. A council member added the amount of interest involved was "it's it's, like, 6% interest," in discussion over how the delay affected the payment.
The item on the work-session agenda was described as authorization for the CFO to make an electronic payment of county taxes, listed for consideration as resolution "2 26 2 93" at the regular meeting. Council and staff discussed changing future payments to automated clearing house transfers; a staff member said, "that's the only thing they will accept now is ACH." Council members and staff also noted the county will not accept extended paper check processing or long wire transfers for these transactions.
Mayor Peterson opened the public portion for comments on the item and asked anyone wishing to speak to give their name and address for the record; no public comments were recorded and the mayor closed the public portion.
At the close of the work session, Council member Kraft moved to adjourn the work session and proceed into the regular meeting; Council member Rotunda seconded. A roll-call vote recorded: Council member Frank — yes; Council member Rotunda — yes; Council member Condos — yes; Council member Connor — yes; Council member Cook — yes; Council President Wills — yes. The motion carried and the mayor announced a brief pause before beginning the regular meeting.
The council did not take final formal action on the resolution during the work session; the authorization for the CFO was placed for consideration at the regular meeting as noted on the agenda.
