Downers Grove council approves routine items, tables PUD rezoning to July 21

At its July 14 meeting the Downers Grove Village Council approved the prior meeting minutes and the consent agenda, unanimously approved a motion to table two zoning ordinances (including a proposed planned-unit development for 1020 31st Street) to July 21, 2026, and heard routine reports from council members and staff.

A council member moved to approve the July 7, 2026 meeting minutes; the motion was seconded and the council approved the minutes unanimously. The consent agenda was also moved and approved without opposition. On active business a motion by a councilmember to table two ordinances was seconded, called non-discussable by a council member, and passed after a roll-call vote; Mayor Barnett said the item would return on the July 21 agenda so the full council could review all materials together.

Council reports highlighted downtown construction projects, including flexible amenity spaces on Main Street and work at Linda Coonsie Plaza; the liaison to downtown also described ongoing promotions and events such as a downtown sidewalk sale (July 23–25), Family Friendly trivia through July 31 and "Loyal to Local" through Aug. 28. A park district representative announced the McCollum Park grand opening on Monday, Aug. 3 (4:00–5:30 p.m.) and promoted the Grove Foundation golf outing on Sept. 12 (registration opens at 1 p.m.; shotgun start at 2 p.m.). Several councilmembers described recent police ride-alongs and praised the department's professionalism.

The meeting ended after a unanimous adjournment vote. The rezoning/PUD for 1020 31st Street will return to the council on July 21, 2026.
