At a Jan. 21 called meeting the Lumpkin City Council discussed options for sewer-main work on Surles and Liberty streets and directed staff toward a plan that repairs Liberty Street for traffic and seeks grant funding for storm drainage and sidewalks.
Councilman D. Thomas proposed running the sewage pipe down the street rather than through private driveways. Clerk Anne Holloway told the council that putting the line through the roadway would cost about $250,000; she said routing through driveways would be less expensive. The meeting record includes engineering plan sheets for a sewer-main replacement project (project L2113.010, Jan. 2026) included in the packet.
The council voted 6-0 to move discussion of Surles and Liberty Street ahead of personnel items on the agenda. After discussion the council agreed to repair Liberty Street to allow traffic access and to plan an application for a grant to complete storm drainage and sidewalks; the meeting did not record any vote to appropriate funds at that time.
The packet materials include plan details showing proposed 10-inch PVC mains, proposed manholes and contractor connection notes; the engineering sheets name StillWaters (contact details appear on the plans) as the firm producing the drawings. The transcript does not specify a grant program or timeline for construction.
The council entered and exited an executive session on personnel during the called meeting and then adjourned. The sewer-main engineering materials in the packet will be the basis for next steps; funding, contractor selection and schedule remain to be decided and were not specified at the meeting.
