Members emphasized consulting tribe representatives first and avoiding commemoration language that could be uncomfortable; the discussion focused on possibilities such as an educational lecture or a program tied to Indigenous Peoples Day in October if the tribe is willing to participate. One member recommended inviting the tribe’s archaeologist or an expert speaker if the tribe agrees.
Committee members agreed that any event to "honor" the tribe should be planned only after direct consultation, and they asked Chair (S1) to report back on the tribe’s interest at the July 30 follow-up meeting. No formal action or commitment to a date was taken; the proposal remains contingent on input from the Stockbridge Munsee tribe.
