Conservation commission schedules site visit for 24th Street cleanup request

The applicant, who identified herself as the recent purchaser of the building, told the commission she intends to clear overgrown brush at the street-facing side, remove dumped debris and trim vegetation to reduce safety and nuisance concerns. "I've owned it for almost a month now ... it's already been more people dumping" she said, explaining her plan to improve the propertys appearance and reduce trespass.
Commissioners raised questions about the buildings condition at the brook, potential contamination and responsibility for any PFAS/PFOS-related materials noted in prior work near Crocker Brook. Staff referred to earlier pump and PFAS-related records in the area and said the commission should view the back of the building in person before concluding what measures are appropriate.
The applicant moved for a site visit; a commissioner seconded the motion and the commission voted to schedule an on-site inspection, asking staff to coordinate a date within the next two weeks. The commission also agreed to continue the RDA to permit a site assessment and follow-up review of any contamination or structural hazards.
Next steps: staff will contact the applicant to set the visit; the RDA will be taken up again after the commission inspects the property.
