Stockbridge Sewer & Water reports completed Trent Hill replacement, hears $4 million estimate for Elm/Maple reconstruction

Stockbridge sewer and water staff reported July 7 that the Trent Hill waterline replacement was completed though the job took longer than expected after unmarked utility lines were uncovered. Mike, a staff member, said the crew installed 1½-inch copper main, tied in two new services and managed temporary shutoffs for affected homes.

"Everything's all copper now... we tied in to the existing copper, both ends, 2 new services, and everything went well," Mike said, describing the completed work and the extra time needed for unshown lines encountered during excavation.

Staff also described design progress and plan revisions for Elm, Maple, South Elm, Laurel Lane and Park Street with an estimated combined cost of about $4,000,000 for full water, sewer and drainage replacement on Elm and Maple. Mike said the consultant returned plans and the town is coordinating mapping corrections and will have a set of ready-to-bid plans once revisions are finished.

On the 3537/Tree Farm Road matter, staff said DEP will require permits for a new pump station; options include the developer building a station the town might accept after a warranty period or the developer operating a separate system. Mike said the town needs to decide how the system will be configured and whether the existing interconnection with Lee is reliable.

Operational updates: staff reported one backwash pump was rebuilt after parts exposure and that an additional pump refurbishment is planned; the repair required an extra $8,000–$9,000 in parts. The board also awarded a loading-dock contract to a vendor (identified in meeting as Atlantis) after soliciting three quotes and will schedule preparatory work with fabricators.

No formal votes on these capital items were taken at the meeting; staff will return with corrected plans, permit updates, and scheduling information.
